Beyond the Soul, sequel to The Heart of Everything, is scheduled for release in paperback form November 15th, 2023. I do intend to release an eBook, hopefully at the same time, but that is still in process. Both versions will be available via Amazon only and the eBook will be enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. Click over to the Book tab and select "Beyond the Soul" to see the cover, read the description and even get a sneak peek inside with the teaser! To celebrate the release of this long-awaited sequel, I'm hosting a giveaway through YABC! Three lucky winners will receive a signed paperback copy and a stack of author bookmarks to share. Click here to join the giveaway! The book is not yet listed on Amazon (sorry!) but I will be posting links as soon as they are available. I do not have the option to offer pre-ordering for the paperback through KDP, but if the eBook comes together quickly, that will be available for pre-order. Stay tuned to Goodreads and/or social media for more teasers, updates on links, and more! Hello all! It's been so long since I've posted an update, I'm almost not sure where to begin XD.
Looking back at my last update almost a year and a half ago (!), I will say that God has blessed my family greatly in terms of all the things we were struggling through before! My husband's job situation is much more stable and supportive for our family, my kids are fantastic, my job hours have dropped considerably, and overall my life has smoothed out to the point that things are progressing fairly well here in the author department. Thank you to everyone who may have prayed for me/us during that chaotic time! All of that boils down to say that I am OFFICIALLY transitioning to being a self-published author! I will be using KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing, through Amazon) to release all of my books from this point forward. I have put in my request to stop using BookBaby to distribute my works, and will be rolling over those first two books in the next few weeks. That means there may be a period where my books are not available, or only available in certain formats, as the transition takes place. Both books will be re-released, I promise! I'm also intending to enroll my eBooks in Kindle Unlimited, as the vast majority of my eReaders use Kindle. Might as well put the bait where the fish are biting, if you know what I mean! So the eBooks will no longer be available anywhere other than Amazon (the same goes for the print versions, as I will still release both print and electronic forms). Nor will I have a "buy from me" option. The buttons on the book pages have not been updated yet - I cannot promise that any of those links will still have books available if you click them, but as soon as I have new links to share, I will update those pages! I'm actually very excited about this change :-D. This gives me greater independence in terms of producing my own books. I can control the price options better (no third party to take a cut!), I won't be waiting on anyone to format or make changes for me (KDP has several helpful tools for both the manuscript and the cover creation), I will be wearing my big-girl author pants and proud of it! Plus, Kindle Unlimited offers me options in terms of running discounts or promotions that I couldn't do before. Of course, that does mean I'll need to learn a few new things besides how to write a good story, but life's not very fun if you never try anything new :-P. Oh, and I haven't forgotten about that sequel I promised you. The progression of all-things-author has included great work on getting that third novel ready to publish.... official book release announcement coming soon ;-). Click here to check it out or read below for more details. So, "Christian with a Twist." The author organizing this bookfair describes it as "gritty Christian fiction," meaning the stories feature redemption but are also full of sinful people who make huge mistakes. The flaws don't necessarily go away, but they are dealt with either through redemption in Christ or with a positive lifestyle choice. There will definitely be some uplifting stories and rewarding endings here! And there will not be anything spicy or erotic, so double-yay! XD (Oh, and did I mention my first novel is in this book sale?) This book sale will only last through the end of the month, so click here to learn more if you haven't already. In the mean time, keep reading and stay tuned for more books to "fall" in love with! It's September, which means fall is here! And so are some amazing book sales :-D. You can read my brief description below, or click here to get straight to the good stuff. The first book sale I have for you this season is fantasy and sci-fi stories, all written by Christian authors! The books themselves aren't necessarily religious (check out the descriptions for each when you visit the link), but all the authors come from the same faith background. Plus, all the books are either free or 99 cents! This sale will only last through September, so be sure to click here today and check them all out. (Did I mention my short story collection is also in this sale? ;-P) Keep reading and stay tuned for more great books next month! Today is my first ever "State of the Author" address. While it may not seem like much is happening, there's a lot going on here at my end (both in my mind and in reality XD), so I wanted to take some time to explain that. Many of you may already be aware that I am planning to publish a sequel to my original novel, "The Heart of Everything." (If you weren't aware of that, well, surprise!) The novel is in fact written and I'm in the process of considering and rejecting the various edits suggested by my very patient editor. Of course, as it happens in real life, editing isn't the only item on my plate these days. Nine months ago I had my second baby, and for someone so small, he takes a LOT of work! Along with that I have a three-old-year who's in the process of toilet training (so much fun, let me tell you ><). In addition to my challenges at home, I'm now working four days a week instead of just two or three. So my "free time" has shrunk considerably this past year. And with my husband intending to pursue a career change over the summer that will pull him away from family time most evenings, I'm expecting that free time to shrink even more.
That being said, I still have hopes of publishing the sequel later this year (see the above "pre" fan art, done by one of my teen advance readers, and try to guess what it's about ;-P). I don't know how realistic those hopes are, but I do still have them. See, I'm wanting to switch to being completely "self-published" instead of using a third party publishing service. Part of doing that relies on my husband to be available to help me format and design a cover (and I mentioned earlier that he will be unable over the summer). The other part of that switch involves transitioning my previous books as well. That would mean pulling the current books off the market (temporarily!) and re-releasing them through my own author accounts. But that means more work before publishing another book so that all of my works can be available in the same places at the same time. Suffice to say, I'm not in a position yet to guarantee whether or not I'll be able to release that sequel this year. And that makes me very sad :`-(. Because I'm really, really ready to complete the story arc that I started 4 years ago! But I want to do it right. And doing it right means making sure I have the time to put all the pieces together for a product and a process that I am proud to have my name on. I hope you'll continue to be patient with me as I fight to make it all come together. Please stay connected with me on my journey, and pray that I'll have the strength and wisdom I need for the days ahead! And if that post title didn't pique your attention, I don't know what will! XD
My guest post today was something rather random - a mini blog I wrote during college about the ant farm I kept in my dorm during finals O_O. It's a silly piece of writing, nothing super special - but my point in sharing it is that inspiration can be found anywhere. You don't have to be rich to sparkle, because you can shine just by stepping into the light. Visit the link below to read it, and discover new ways to find inspiration for yourself! https://www.thepaperhousebooks.com/post/inspiration-can-be-anywhere Until the next time, stay tuned! When it comes to the world of working and actually paying the bills, I'm a registered nurse. This is not something I often share in my writing. (Although, it clearly says that on the "About the Author" page of my books... but who reads those, really?! XD) So, my guest post this time is a little bit different than the ones I've done before. It's titled "Nursing vs. Writing" and it explores the differences (and similarities!) between my vocations. You can read the full post here:
